How the pattern behaves

Nobody holds a 100-round spray on one target. Set control for the first thirty and tap-burst after that.

Every value below assumes a fixed in-game sensitivity and field of view. Rust scales recoil compensation against both, so changing either after you tune means re-measuring from scratch — this is the single most common reason a set of numbers that worked last week suddenly does not.

Recommended setup

SlotPickWhy
ScopeHolo SightClear sight picture without narrowing your view in close fights.
BarrelNoneNothing in this slot meaningfully improves the pattern.
Horizontal control68Counters the sideways pull. Too high and your shots walk the opposite way.
Vertical control80Counters the climb. Tune this first, then horizontal.
Randomisation4 / 4Small jitter on both axes so long holds do not trace a mechanically perfect line.

Tuning it yourself

Wall-test at about twenty metres and fire the full magazine, then read the group rather than watching your crosshair.

Scope and barrel combinations

Each optic changes the curve the script has to play, which is why a single set of numbers cannot cover every combination. M249 tables are measured against all 5 optics and 4 barrel options, and re-measured after each game patch.

Per-weapon recoil control for all 19 Rust gunsMeasured tables for every scope and barrel, re-measured after each patch. Keys from $20.
